FAQ About PR Application
1. Why should I use Top Notch Immigrations when I could handle it myself?
Although filling out an application may seem straightforward, there are more than ten different components of your profile that the government will consider when evaluating your application for PR/Citizenship. In addition, there are several additional aspects that are not well-known to the public, but which we can advise on due to our extensive knowledge and connections. We can recommend different agencies or organizations to help you build your case, and we can provide viable solutions to every aspect of your life in Singapore that may be considered by the reviewing authorities. Our expertise in strategizing is crucial in the case-building process. Do not leave something as important as your PR/Citizenship application to chance.
We ensure that our clients’ documents are of the highest quality and comply with the requirements of the reviewing authorities by utilizing our extensive knowledge and experience. We have a paperless system that is accessible through a secure portal, and all documents are securely stored in our system and private network, which is an uncommon practice in the industry. We keep our Document Controllers updated on all the latest changes to the system, ensuring that your final application is not unexpectedly rejected during submission.
Our personalized service ensures that our clients can adhere to a workable timeline that promises an unrushed submission that remains as fuss-free as possible. We exercise great flexibility with clients to minimize physical meetups if and where necessary, which translates to minimal disruption to their schedules.
2. Pricing Discrepancies in Consultancy and Agencies, Ranging from Cheap to Expensive
We have noticed a significant difference in the prices quoted. Unfortunately, it seems that the prices are often tied to the client’s income level.
At Top Notch Immigrations, we are committed to long-term partnerships with our clients, and we strictly follow our internal pricing guidelines. We believe in providing fair pricing based on the amount of work required, not on the size of your pay check.
We take a meticulous approach to every case, assigning a dedicated Documents Controller and Consultant for the entire service period of at least one year. While the amount of work we do justifies higher prices, we promise to deliver top-quality and excellent services for less.
3. What is the cost of your service for PR or Citizenship applications? Is there any hidden cost or marketing gimmick involved?
We have a transparent fixed pricing plan that is tailored to fit each client’s profile and needs, without any hidden costs or marketing gimmicks. Our services involve comprehensive checks to ensure that all documents meet the reviewing authorities’ standards, and we use our insider knowledge to present the best case forward for our clients, eliminating potential rejection risks. Our charges are based on two factors: the immediate family size of the applicant and the complexity of the case, such as a prior criminal history or having been rejected multiple times by the ICA/MOM.
4. The Accuracy of Promised Approval Rates by Consultancy Firms
We recognize that each case we handle is unique and cannot be approached with a one-size-fits-all method. That’s why we will carefully review your entire profile during our consultation and explain your current and improved chances of success through our services.
Make an appointment with us today, and you’ll see the difference for yourself.
5. What is Singapore PR (SPR)?
Singapore Permanent Residency is one of the most sought-after immigration statuses in Singapore, second only to citizenship. It provides a plethora of benefits, including the ability to reside, work, and purchase property in the country at a reduced tax rate, as well as access to various privileges such as unrestricted travel.
Additionally, PR children receive priority in the public education system, and employers are required to make CPF contributions. PR holders are no longer required to apply for a new work visa when transferring jobs.
However, with these benefits come certain responsibilities that the government can enforce, such as military service, which male PR children are obligated to undertake once they reach 18.
6. Should my spouse/family and I apply together or separately, given that we are both staying in Singapore?
To demonstrate a strong commitment to residing in Singapore, it is advisable for both you and your spouse/family to submit your PR applications jointly rather than separately.
7. Can I apply for Singapore PR immediately after working here?
You can submit an application for ICA’s consideration after you have been working here on an Employment or S Pass for some time.
8. Can I sponsor my children for Singapore PR?
If they are above 21 years old your children will have to apply on their own merits. If your children are below 21 years old your children can apply for Singapore PR under your sponsorship.
9. Can I sponsor my parent(s) for Singapore PR?
Only Singapore citizens can sponsor their parent(s) for Singapore PR. Parent(s) of Singapore PRs can apply for PR on their own merits if they are employed in Singapore on an Employment or S pass.
10. Do I need an employer's sponsorship to apply for Singapore PR?
It is not a prerequisite to have an employer’s sponsorship to apply to be a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR).
11. How soon can a Singapore PR apply for Singapore citizenship after being granted PR status?
Singapore PRs is eligible to apply for Singapore citizenship two years after being granted PR status.
12. I am a Singapore PR but am currently not working in Singapore. Can I apply for PR for my dependant(s)?
You may submit a PR application for your dependant(s) for ICA’s consideration.
13. I am a Singapore PR. Do I need to apply for a work pass to work in Singapore?
As a Singapore PR, you do not need a work pass to work here. However, the PR status does not exempt an individual from registration or any other conditions required under the respective professions for which professional registration to practise in Singapore is prerequisite (e.g. medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, architecture, law, etc.).
14. I need to provide supporting documents to ICA for my application of PR. What should I do if they are not in English Language?
For documents that are not in English language, ICA accepts translation done by the Embassy of the document-issuing country or a Notary Public in Singapore. A privately translated copy attested by the Embassy of the document-issuing country or notarized by a Notary Public in Singapore is also acceptable. ICA does not endorse any private translation companies or entities.
15. If I want to change jobs while ICA is still processing my PR application, will it affect my application?
Changing jobs while your PR application is being processed will not negatively affect your chances, as long as you don’t have a history of frequently switching jobs. In fact, getting a promotion or a higher salary may even improve your chances. It is essential that you are seen as a stable and responsible candidate by the ICA.
Before making any changes to your employment or personal profile, such as having a newborn, it’s important to contact us so that we can assist you in preparing the necessary documents.
16. Will I have to serve the NS after I am granted a PR status?
PR’s under Professionals/Technical Personnel and Skilled Workers Scheme (PTS) or Global Investor Scheme (GIP) are exempted from National Service. Male children with PR status under their parents’ sponsorship are subject to NS under the Enlistment Act.
17. Will my son need to attend National Service?
Under the Enlistment Act, all male adults Singaporean Citizens and PRs, unless exempted, must register for National Service (NS). Following the completion of the service, they will be required to complete up to 40 days of Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS), every year, for the duration of the ORNS training cycle, until the age of 50 years (for army officers) or 40 years for the rest.
Principal applicants who are given PR status under the PTS or GIP schemes are exempted from NS.
Male applicants who are awarded PR status as a Foreign Student or under their parents’ sponsorship are subject to NS under the Enlistment Act. They must register for NS upon reaching 16 years old and will be listed at the earliest opportunity after 18 years old. If they pursue full-time studies, deferment from full-time NS may be granted if they meet the deferment conditions specified by the Ministry of Defence. All males NS-liable aged 13 years old and above must obtain an Exit Permit (EP) when traveling overseas for more than three months.
NS-liable PRs are required to serve NS. Renouncing or losing your PR status without serving or completing full-time NS would harm any future applications to study or work in Singapore. You will also jeopardize future Singapore citizenship or PR status as well as future application renewals of Re-entry Permits for you and your sponsors.
18. Can my son defer National Service if he is not in Singapore when he becomes liable?
Deferment is usually given to those who pursue tertiary education. However, eligible males are still expected to serve before attending university. You can still write a letter asking for deferment, but its acceptance is at the discretion of the Ministry of Defence.
